What are your thoughts about taking Fosamax once a week? My doctor seems to
want me to do that. I will have another dexa scan next week then consider it.
Do any of you have information that would be useful?

Sorry to state the obvious but it's *much* more convenient.
It surprised me how much it improved my attitude but then, I have
arthritis as well so now there's only one day a week when I have to wait
to take my meds.
Really a lot better.

My ol' grandaddy taught me to always;
post in plain text,
quote only that portion to which you are replying,
post replies at the bottom.
I have to take thyroid meds -- also on an empty stomach, also wait-to-eat,
and they CANNOT be taken at the same time as Fosamax! Also being diabetic, I
don't like to wait too long to eat after I get up (unless I'm just vegging
in bed or having surgery). I also like to exercise in the morning during the
warmer months, and I can't do that on an empty stomach. Makes for an
interesting balancing act.
Fortunately (sorta) I wake up during the night anyway, so that's when I take
my thyroid pill. I can go back to bed after it, which is not an option with
Fosamax. I think I can manage a 1/2 hour wait, doing light chores or
something (I used to walk the dog). I wouldn't want to have to
take-pill-wait, take-another-pill-wait, then eat -- by then it's lunchtime!
Not a good plan for me overall.
Now, I haven't actually taken Foso yet, but it looks like I'm going to have
to do something along that line. So it's a good thing I've got an a.m.
"opportunity" open, and with the 1/week regime would only have that extra
wait once weekly rather than daily.

It's a pita on Saturday mornings, which is when I take it, but it's
better than a pita every day of the week. I wake up slowly and dully,
so an off day is perfect. Except that I don't get my sugar and
caffeine until an hour or so after arising and I'm used to it _right
away_. When I was taking it daily, I was not a happy person until I
got, still somewhat sleepy, to work and could gulp down my Dr Pepper.
Luckily the idea of food repels me for at least an hour after getting
up...
For those of us who have to take more than one med daily, particularly
if any of the others should go on an empty stomach, once a week is the
best.

Your Dr. Pepper is NOT what you should be taken. Give up soda.
It contains phosphoric acid which is about the worst thin you can do for your bones.
I highly recommend you seriously read the Bone Density Diet by George Kessler
and learn what are the issues for your bones. Dr. Pepper must cease to exist.
