The older generation in Okinawa, who have not adopted a western diet,
are the longest-lived and healthiest people in the world. Okinawans
have about 20% fewer hip fractures than do mainland Japanese, and
Japanese have about 40% fewer hip fractures than Americans.
They don't necessarily have a lower calcium intake - it's just not from
dairy. They get their calcium from vegetables and their drinking water.
