I really have read that gardening is the best exercise for osteoporosis.
I think it is because we are doing something we love, and someone who didn't
love it couldn't stand to do it.
So often we hear about those things that we have confidence in are the
things that hurt us. We are supposed to be careful, yet exercise --there seem
to be no answers. Doctors don't want to get sued so they talk about
moderation. Art is one of the few that I have read about that talks about
lifting heavier weights, yet that may be my link to being free of osteoporosis.
The Fosamax helped my lumbar come out of the osteopenia range, but not my
hips. Someone wrote that the Fosamax doesn't do as much good for the larger
bone in the hip as the lumbar. Logically then the heavier weights are what
may keep me from getting worse. I don't know if any doctor would suggest a
weight program and that is probably all that can really help us.
I'm preaching to the choir, I guess. But we do all have to decide what is
needed as far as activity goes, what is helpful, yet what is excess.
