Forteo is touted as a wonder drug and i had high hopes
of being on it quickly.

My rheumatologist is one of the doctors who was
testing it on patients. We have spoken about it in
great depth but at my last appt - he said that he had
to take two of the patients off the drug due to
unexplained (to me) side effects. He did let me read
the in-depth info he had and in it the risk of cancer
is talked about much more than what we are led to
believe. His current disposition is that he will NOT
use the drug in it's present form for the forseeable
future.

I then went and visited my endocrinologist who
basically said the same thing. He feels that the
risk/benefit ratio makes it a poor gamble at the
present time and even with my -4.1 osteoporosis he will
not use it.

It will be interesting to see how this drug makes out
over the next few years.

Well, there appears to be a high incidence of bone cancer. So, it's too extreme
to me.
However, perhaps from this research will come better drugs. If I was -4 something
I would
strongly consider it.

There was no incidence of bone cancer in the 2 years clinical trial on human.

The recommendation for Forteo is that you have a low T score (- 4 or lower) and no
other medication could be taken for some reasons or there was no improvement with
these medications. The prescription should not last more than 2 years.

The other good thing, is that with a new product, will often come a new line of research.
There is no doubt it is a dangerous drug, the animal studies show it. That's why they limit it

to extreme cases.

However, it is exciting technology and worth watching and watch watch research comes
out along that line.

It could also, if animal studies are any indications and up getting pulled off the market.

Also, don't ignore natural treatments, research. I was advised to eat a lot of seaweed,
which is full of minerals and magnesium.
